Brooks Stevens, Inc provides Gates Corporation with brainstorming session to generate an innovative smartphone app

Milwaukee, WI-IDEAtion sessions are Brooks Stevens’ formal brainstorming sessions to generate myriad concepts for design & engineering needs and product opportunities.  It’s a pivotal piece of product development that has a huge impact.  Last May, Brooks Stevens, Inc facilitated a two-day IDEAtion session for client, Gates Corporation to address a tactical issue: to improve a specific product and a holistic issue: to enhance the service relationship.  To ensure ideas were captured from all sides of the company, the session involved a cross-disciplinary selection of Gates employees ranging from Marketing to Engineering.

In the two-day brainstorming session, 18 participants worked collaboratively to generate product solutions and ideas for stakeholders.  Over 150 seed ideas were created, 11 of which were roughly refined.  From these exercises, Gates was inspired to develop their recently launched PIC Gauge Smartphone app which measures Micro-V belt wear and provides a recommendation on replacement to the service technician.
